The world of Lolita is full of some words that may be a little confusing without clarification, so here's a small dictionary of words to help you out.
Bloomers: Loose shorts gathered at the bottom and worn under a skirt to protect modesty.
Blouse: A feminine style of up formal shirt made of woven fabric.
Bonnet: A hat of cloth or straw with a large brim, held in place by ribbons tied under the chin.
Cutsew: A slightly more casual Lolita blouse made of jersey/knit fabric.
GLB / Gothic Lolita Bible: A Japanese magazine for Lolita’s that contain sewing patterns, photos, and other Lolita related articles.
Guro Lolita: A style of Lolita known as “Guro” or “Gory Lolita.”
Headdress: A rectangular or circular hair accessory that ties underneath the chin with ribbon. Also commonly used to describe any type of Lolita hair accessory.
Ita Lolita: A Lolita that looks bad. “Ita” coming from the Japanese word for “ow,” to describe one as being “painful for the eyes to look at.”
Half Bonnet: A bonnet with no back, it looks more like a headdress with a brim.
Jabot: An ornamental cascade of ruffles or frills down the front of a shirt, blouse, or dress.
Kachuusha: A headband, most often with a big Alice bow on top.
Kuro Lolita: A style of Lolita known as “Kuro,” or “Black Lolita,” comprised only of clothing and accessories that are black.
JSK / Jumper Skirt: A sleeveless Lolita dress usually worn with a blouse.
Lucky Pack: A secret pack of Lolita clothes that brands sell at various times during the year for a low price.
Mook: A hybrid word derived from both "book" and "magazine". Mooks are the size of magazines and contain similar content but the binding is much sturdier and the pages are much thicker; like a book.
OP / One Piece: A Lolita dress that has sleeves.
Ordering Service: A shopping service that one would use to purchase items from shops that do not ship overseas, or for various auction sites. Most people who run an ordering service usually charge a commission on top of the price of the item.
Pannier / Petticoat: A type of underskirt usually made of tulle worn to give volume to skirts.
Rocking Horse Shoes: A pair of shoes that are very tall, with a heel made from wood / cork with a notch taken out of the back.
Rococo: A style of 18th Century art and design where Lolita draws a lot of its inspiration.
Shimotsuma Monogatari / Kamizake Girls: A popular book about a Lolita and a biker girl written by Novala Takemoto. This book has also been made into a movie.
Shiro Lolita: A style of Lolita known as “Shiro,” or “White Lolita,” comprised only of clothing and accessories that are white.
Shirring: A type of gathering that is stretchable.
Sock Toppers: A decoration to sit at the top of one’s socks usually made from ribbon, and lace.
Wrist Cuffs: A wrist accessory like a bracelet made of lace.
